PICTURE BY DAVE WINTER/SWPIX.COM - At around 07:50 (local time), following a car accident involving a grey Renault Clio in the town of Montrouge, a suburb of Paris, a shoot-out ensued during which a police officer and one other person were shot. A 52 year-old man was arrested at the scene, whilst a second escaped, later abandoning his vehicle in the town of Arcueil. At 10:50 it was announced that the police officer, a woman, had died of her injuries whilst a 47 year-old man was still in critical condition. It's still not clear whether there's any link between this shooting and the deadly attack at the office of the Charlie Hebdo magazine the previous day. At approximately 11:30, the BRI (Brigade de recherché et d'intervention- the French equivalent of a SWAT team) secured the Hotel Atlantide on avenue Pierre Brossolette, a hundred or so metres from the scene of the car accident and shooting. A handcuffed man in a red hoodie was seen being led into the hotel, before being lead away some twenty minutes later - Paris, France - 08/01/15.
